It is said that in Martina franca when
winter was coming, it was felt and not
a simple jacket was enough to shelter from
Freddo. It is said that it was possible to weave from black wool
a coat so warm and waterproof that was enough
one touch to make all the snow fall. The capano, or as they call it in these parts capen, is a
very heavy jacket, wool fabric outside and tartan inside,
a little longer than a jacket but shorter than a coat. In Martina Franca the presence of several farms of
goats, with long hair, favored the "lard-woven" texture.
